The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team saw its season come to a close with an 18-7 loss at top-ranked Salisbury University on Wednesday in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament semifinals. The Eagles close the year with a record of 8-9.

The Sea gulls came out strong, scoring the game's first three goals, before UMW's Mark Bowler (Cary, N.C., Cary) scored unassisted to put the Eagles on the board with 1:35 left in the first. Salisbury then put the throttle down, scoring eight straight goals into the second quarter to lead 11-1, before junior Kohl Meyer (Shawnee, N.J., Shawnee) scored on a Brian Meaney (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y., Cold Spring Harbor) assist with 15 seconds left in the half.

Mary Washington never quit, scoring five of the last eight goals of the game.  Meaney and Bowler each scored in the third quarter for the Eagles, while Johnny Hink (Fairfax, Va., Woodson), Bowler, and Evan Weiss (Oakton, Va., Madison) netted fourth quarter goals for the Eagles.

Bowler led the Eagles with three goals, with Meaney adding a goal and two assists. Salisbury held a 40-37 edge in shots, and won the ground ball battle, 51-43. The Eagles won 13 faceoffs and sophomore Matt Prin (Olney, Md., Sherwood) had eight saves for UMW. The Eagles were 10-19 on clear attempts in the game.
