The University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team dropped a 15-7 decision to second-ranked Salisbury University on Wednesday afternoon at the Battleground. The Eagles fall to 4-6 overall and 0-2 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

Salisbury opened the scoring with 12:01 remaining in the first quarter on a goal by Sam Bradman. Less than two minutes later, the Eagles tied the score on a score from junior Evan Weiss (Oakton, Va., Madison) at 10:19.

From there, Salisbury scored four straight goals to extend the lead to 5-1. Sophomore Harry Snyder (Charlottesville, Va., St. Anne's-Belfield) cut the deficit to 5-2 with 8:36 left in the second, but Salisbury closed the half with four straight goals to take a 9-2 advantage at intermission.

The scoring came fast and furious to start the third quarter, as both teams scored in the first 24 seconds. The Eagles scored again with 10:23 left in the quarter on a goal from Kohl Meyer (Shawnee, N.J., Shawnee) to cut the deficit to 10-4. After Salisbury scored three straight to assume a 13-4 lead, the Eagles closed the game by scoring three of the final five goals of the game, including by tallies from Weiss and a pair from senior James Fitzella (Vienna, Va., Madison).

Sophomore goalie Matt Prin (Olney, Md., Sherwood) had another great game for UMW, making 20 saves. Salisbury's Johnny Rodriguez made six stops. Salisbury outshot UMW, 44-18, and had 40 ground balls to 28 for the Eagles. The Sea Gulls were also 18-18 on clears, and won 17 of 25 faceoffs.
