Prin Stops 29 Shots; UMW Falls to #2 Stevenson, 11-4

Sophomore goalie Matt Prin (Olney, Md., Sherwood) made a school-record 29 saves, but it wasn't enough as second-ranked Stevenson University defeated the University of Mary Washington men's lacrosse team, 11-4, on Wednesday at the Battleground. The Mustangs improve to 8-0 while the Eagles fall to 4-5.

The Mustangs led, 4-0 after one quarter, but UMW answered after Stevenson had built a 6-0 lead with three goals of their own, all coming from the stick of sophomore Harry Snyder (Charlottesville, Va., St. Anne's-Belfield) in the second quarter. The game stood at 6-3 at halftime.

Stevenson outscord UMW, 5-1, in the final two quarters. Senior Ryan Motyka (Germantown, Md., Watkins Mill) scored UMW's lone seocnd half goal.

The Mustangs outshot the Eagles, 60-23, and had 25 ground balls to 20 for UMW. Stevenson won every faceoff but one. Prin's 29 saves sets a new school record for UMW. Stevenson's Andrew Harrington had five stops as well.

Mary Washington will be off until next Wednesday when they host third-ranked Salisbury University at 4:00 p.m.
