UMW Men's Basketball Rings in 2024 with 63-46 Win Over F&M

The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team shot over 50% from the field, and limited visiting Franklin & Marshall College to 19 second half points in a 63-46 victory on Wednesday night at Ron Rosner Arena. The Eagles improve to 9-5 on the season.

The teams traded baskets and the lead in the early going, as neither team led by more than three, until the Eagles used a Jay Randall layin with 9:56 left to give UMW a 16-11 lead. UMW maintained a slim lead throughout the rest of the half, never relinquishing the lead nor extending beyond four points, and the Eagles led, 31-27, at intermission.

UMW used a 14-4 run to open the second half, capped by a Jadon Burgess basket with 12:27 left, to lead 45-31. Dorian Davis had four points in the well balanced streak. The Eagle defense stepped up, never losing the double-figure lead down the stretch.

Davis and senior Zack Blue each scored 11 points to lead the Eagles, while junior Trey Pittman added 10. Blue and Cameron McCravy each led with seven rebounds.

The Eagles shot 24-47 from the floor (51.1%), making 1-6 three point attempts and 14-22 free throws. F&M shot 17-55 (30.9%), making 3-12 three point tries and 9-12 free throws. The Eagles controlled the glass, leading 43-25 in rebounds.

UMW will return to action on Saturday when they host Westminster College at 3:00 p.m.
