UMW Men's Basketball Tops Hood, 81-72, on Wednesday Night

Sophomore guard Dorian Davis led all scorers with 23 points to lead three players in double figures as the University of Mary Washington men's basketball team defeated Hood College, 81-72, on Wednesday night in Frederick, Md. Both teams move to 2-1 on the season.

After digging themselves a 9-1 hole at the outset, the teams traded three pointers, before the Eagles used a pair of baskets from Trey Pittman and another from Greg Rowson to draw to within 12-10 with 10:34 remaining in the first half. The Blazers held the advantage until Davis connected for a three with 7:38 left. 

The score remained close until the Eagles reeled off an 8-2 run with 2:00 on the clock to up the lead to 36-28. A late three pointer from Hood cut the margin to 39-37 at halftime.

In the second half, the Eagles held the Blazers at arms' length, shooting 50% from the field and outscoring the hosts by seven.

Davis went 7-16 from the floor, making 5-12 three pointers and all four free throw attempts. He also added seven rebounds. Rowson and Pittman each scored 15, and senior guard Cameron McCravy led with five assists.

The Eagles are back in action on Saturday, when they host the University of Lynchburg at 4:30 p.m.
