Cook's 17 Leads UMW Men's Basketball Past Pratt, 65-45

Senior guard Da'Shawn Cook scored a game-high 17 points in leading a balanced attack for the University of Mary Washington men's basketball team past Pratt Institute, 65-45, on Saturday afternoon in Brooklyn, N.Y. The Eagles improve to 13-4 on the season.

The Eagles jumped ahead early, racing to a 10-point lead in the opening five minutes. Five points from senior Emmanuel Aghayere and three pointers from Zack Blue, Greg Rowson, and Cook built the advantage. The Cannoneers trimmed the deficit to six, at 19-13 with 9:23 left, but baskets from Dorian Davis and Andrew Rowson quicly built the lead back to double figures. Points from Cook and Patrick Smedley gave UMW a 29-21 lead at intermission.

A 13-4 Eagle run opened the second half, and a pull-up jumper from Cook with 9:43 remaining built the lead to 48-29. Blue and Davis followed with three pointers, and the Eagles remained comfortably ahead down the stretch.

Cook made 6-10 field goals, including 3-5 three point attempts. Blue scored nine points and grabbed five steals, and Cameron McCravy scored nine on 4-8 shooting. Davis added eight points.

UMW shot 45.5% from the field (27-55), making 11-31 three-point tries, and made 4-6 free throws. Pratt shot 42.9% (15-35), making 4-9 three point shots and 11-17 free throws. The Eagles forced 25 turnovers.

The Eagles will be back in action on Sunday, when they visit Yeshiva at 3:00 p.m.
