Hot Shooting Leads UMW Men's Basketball Past Eastern Mennonite, 89-71

Seniors Da'Shawn Cook and Greg Rowson each netted 22 points in leding a red-hot shooting performance in an 89-71 victory for the University of Mary Washington men's basketball team at Eastern Mennonite University on Wednesday night in Harrisoburg, Va. The Eagles improve to 12-4 on the season.

The two teams battled back and forth in the opening minutes, as the lead changed hands five times in the opening 5:25 of play. A three pointer from Cook with 12:48 left gave the Eagles a six-point advantage, but the Royals went on a run that gave them a 21-20 lead with 11:03 remaining. EMU then extended the lead to as many as four, before a big Mary Washington run at the end of the half positioned them with a 46-36 lead at halftime.

In the second half, an 8-0 Eagle run opened play, and UMW maintained a solid distance ahead for the remainder of the game. EMU trimmed the deficit to nine with 9:48 left, but another Cook three quickly returned the margin to double figures. UMW connected on six free throws down the stretch for the comfortable win.

Cook shot 8-16 from the field, making 8-16 shots, including 6-9 three point attempts. Rowson scord 22 on 7-11 shots, including 3-5 three point shots. Matias Prock scored 13 points and Emmanuel Aghayere added 11 for the Eagles.
