Rowson, Blue Lead #20 UMW Men's Basketball Past TCNJ, 84-62, at W&L Invite

Senior forward Greg Rowson scored a game-high 22 points, and junior guard Zack Blue added a career-high 21 in leading the 20th ranked University of Mary Washington men's basketball team to an 84-62 victory over The College of New Jersey at the Washington & Lee Holiday Invitational on Thursday evening in Lexington, Va. The Eagles improve to 10-2 on the season.

The Eagles jumped out to an early 7-1 lead in the opening minutes, and never trailed, as the lead grew to double digits at 17-7 on a Rowson layup with 10:55 remaining in the first half. A three pointer from Blue with 7:19 left upped the advantage to 26-10, and senior Da'Shawn Cook followed to widen the margin to 19. Cook scored eight straight in the closing minutes, and Rowson's jumper capped the first half, and the Eagles took a 46-23 lead to halftime.

UMW started the second half with a 5-0 run, and were never challenged in the final 20 minutes, leading by as many as 29 and as few as 17. 

Rowson led the Eagles with 22 points on 7-12 shooting, making 3-6 three point attempts and 5-6 free throws. Blue made 6-10 shots, including 4-7 three point tries, and 5-7 free throws. Cook added 14 and senior Emmanuel Aghayere added 11 for the Eagles.

UMW shot 51% from the floor (26-51), making 13-33 three point shots and 19-25 free throws. TCNJ shot 45.8% (22-48), making 7-21 three point tries and 11-17 free throws. The Lions led in rebounds, 32-24, and the Eagles forced 17 turnovers while committing just six.

The Eagles will take on host Washington & Lee University on Friday at 4:00 p.m. for the tournament title.
