The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team fell to York College, 76-74, on Saturday afternoon in York, PA. The Eagles slip to 17-8 overall, and finish the CAC regular season 9-5. Freshman Greg Rowson led the team with 20 points. The Eagles secured the third seed in the CAC tournament and will host Penn St. Harrisburg on Tuesday in the first round. 

In the early going, York got out to an early 7-2 lead but a Mark Madison layup cut the score to 7-4 with 17:43 to play. The Spartans grew their lead to 11, 19-8, as they made their first seven shots of the game with 15:44 to play. Greg Rowson nailed a three-pointer with 13:34 to play that brought the Eagles within single digits, 21-12. 

Rowson then completed a three-point play to get UMW closer at 24-17 with 10:16 left. York extended their lead to 16 over the next five minutes to take a 36-20 advantage. At the end of the half, the Eagles chipped away at that lead as Da'Shawn Cook made a layup, Drew Johnson added a layup, and Rowson knocked down another three-pointer to put the Eagles down 42-33 going into the locker room for half. 

York grew their lead to 17, 54-37, as they knocked down a couple of three-pointers with 16:27 left in the half. UMW countered with a 7-0 run as Cook knocked down a jump shot, Johnny Cronin made a layup, and Ra'Shawn Cook knocked down a three-pointer. York grew their lead back to 13, 57-44, with 13:57 left. 

From there, UMW exploded for an 18-0 run to take their first lead of the game and go up 62-57. In the run, Johnson and the Cook twins all combined for 16 points. York scored five straight to tie the game back up at 62 a piece. The Spartans then took a 68-64 lead after knocking down two consecutive three-pointers. 

R.Cook and Madison then both scooped home layups to tie the game back up at 68 a piece. The Spartans scored the next five points to take a 73-68 lead. R. Cook made a layup and then the Spartans missed the front end of a 1 and 1 to allow Rowson to knock down two free throws and get within one, 73-72. 

On the ensuing possession, York made just one free throw to go up two. D. Cook then took the ball all the way to the basket and finished a layup to tie the game up at 74 with six-seconds left. York then got fouled at mid court and made the two free throws that were given and closed out the game 76-74.

D. Cook finished with 17 points and R. Cook added 13 points. Madison also scored double digit points as he ended with 11.
