The University of Mary Washington falls at the University of Lynchburg, 69-64, on Saturday evening in Lynchburg, VA. The Eagles slip to 3-2 on the season. Greg Rowson led the team with 15 points. 

UMW got out to a fast start as they jumped ahead 9-2 in the first 2:41. In that stretch, Johnny Cronin scored four points, Rowson made two free throws, and Mark Madison made a three-pointer. The Eagles extended their lead to 11, 16-5, with 14:54 on a layup from Da'Shawn Cook. 

Madison drained another three-pointer to keep the Eagles up 19-10. From there, the Hornets went on an 11-0 run and took the lead 21-19. Madison knocked down a jumper to end the run, but Lynchburg then scored eight straight points to take a 29-21 lead with 7:33 to play in the first half. 

With 4:46 remaining Tyler Withers made a three-pointer to bring the Eagles within six, 34-28. Rowson kept UMW within six after knocking down three free throws with 3:09 to play. Lynchburg went on an 8-0 run to go up 14, but a layup from Ra'Shawn Cook and Jacob Williams put the Eagles down 45-35 at the half.

The second half started slow as both teams failed to score over the first 2:38. Mike Janowski and Rowson both knocked down three-pointers and that brought the Eagles within eight, 51-43, with 13:43 remaining. After a Rowson three-pointer and free throw, the Eagles found themselves within four, 53-49. 

The Hornets pushed their lead back to eight with 9:24 to play. UMW made a push and Jacob Williams knocked down a free throw with 6:11 left to put them down four, 60-56. Janowski knocked down another three-pointer and that put the Eagles down just one point with 4:41 remaining. 

Madison nailed a clutch three-pointer with 3:07 to play to give UMW their first lead of the second half. From there, the Eagles were unable to score and Lynchburg scored six points in that span. UMW had a shot to tie the game with six seconds to play but the ball came up just short.

Madison finished the game with 14 points and Williams had 10 points on 4-6 shooting from the field. Cronin hauled in 10 rebounds to go along with six points and four assists. 

UMW shot 23-62 (37.1%) from the field and they shot 11-38 (28.9%) from three-point range. The Eagles pulled down 38 rebounds and dished out nine assists.

UMW will be back in action on Sunday as they will play Randolph at 1 p.m. as part of the Wayne Proffitt Classic.
