Senior Johnny Cronin scored 19 points and added nine rebounds and freshman Greg Rowson scored 14 points with seven rebounds to lead the University of Mary Washington men's basketball team to a 76-60 victory over Ferrum College on Sunday at Rosner Arena. The Eagles improve to 3-0 on the season. Cronin was named to the All-Hyatt Place Tipoff Classic Team, while Rowson was named the MVP.

The Eagles' long range shooting again kickstarted the offense, as the first four Eagle field goals were from distance. Ferrum stuck close in the early going, as the score stood tied at 16-16 with 13:35 left in the first half. The Eagles used a layup from Khiorie Stewart and a three pointer from Riley Welch to open up a five-point margin, but Ferrum again knoitted the score at 23-23 with 7:45 remaining.

Three pointers from Mike Janowski and Da'Shawn Cook and a free throw from Cronin opened up a 30-25 lead, and baskets from Cronin and Jordan Shaw extended the lead to nine, at 34-25, with 5:37 on the clock. Baskets from Rowson and Cronin gave the Eagles a game-high 13 point lead at halftime, 42-29.

In the second half, the Eagles slowly extended the lead, using a Welch layup with 14:27 left to take a 21-point margin at 55-34, and the lead grew to 30 on another Welch basket with 10:26 to play. Ferrum cut the deficit to as few as 16 at the final horn, scoring the final seven points of the contest.

Cronin made 6-8 field goal tries and 7-14 free throws for 19 points to go with a game-high nine rebounds. Rowson made 5-7 field goals and both of his free throws for 14.

The Eagles shot 46.7% from the field (28-60), making 8-31 three point attempts, and 12-23 free throw tries. Ferrum shot 37.3% (22-59), making 8-34 three pointers and 8-13 free throws. The Eagles led the rebounding battle, 44-38.

Mary Washington will return to action on November 26, when they visit Washington & Lee University at 7 p.m.
