YORK, Pa. - For the second-straight year, CAC-champion Christopher Newport secured two of the three major awards to headline the 2017 All-CAC Men's Basketball team. Senior foward Tim Daly and head coach John Krikorian claimed Player and Coach of the Year honors, respectively, while Wesley freshman guard Brian Cameron collected Rookie of the Year accolades.
CNU captured its second consecutive CAC title with another dramatic victory over Salisbury in the championship, and was rewarded for its superb campaign with two major awards and a conference-leading four players on the all-star squad. Daly, who hit the game-winning shot in the championship game, led the 2017 All-CAC team as the Player of the Year, joining teammate Marcus Carter (2016 POY) as back-to-back recipients of the award for the Captains.
Krikorian was named by his peers as the "Jeff Gamber" CAC Coach of the Year for the second straight year after guiding the Captains to their second straight regular season and tournament titles. Krikorian is the first CAC coach to claim Coach of the Year in back-to-back seasons since St. Mary's Chris Harney in 2010 and 2011, and the seventh coach to receive the honor multiple times.
Wesley's Cameron becomes the third Wolverine in program history to earn Rookie of the Year accolades. Wayne Lennon (2013) and Paul Reynolds (2010) were the prevoius Wesley players to win top rookie honors.
CNU's Carter, a junior guard, joined Daly as a first team All-CAC honoree. Both Daly and Carter are now three-time CAC all-stars, with each earning second team honors in 2015 and first team honors in 2016. Carter was also the Rookie of the Year in 2015.
Landing on the All-CAC second team for the Captains were senior guard Kevin Regimbal and junior guard Aaron McFarland. It marks the first all-conference accolade for Regimbal, while McFarland was a first team selection last winter.
Salisbury, which finished as the CAC runner-up for the second year in a row, received three All-CAC nods. Senior forward Wyatt Smith and senior guard Justin Witmer each secured the second All-CAC first team recognition of their careers, while senior forward Gordon Jeter was a second team pick. Jeter, the 2014 Rookie of the Year, was a first team all-star last season.
York, which finished third in the regular season and advanced to the CAC semifinals for the first time since 2011-12, had two players earn all-conference recognition. Junior Matt Scamuffo was named to the first team, with junior forward Blayde Reich receiving second team accolades for the Spartans.
Mary Washington junior forward Eric Shaw rounded out the first team honorees, securing the third All-CAC award of his career. Shaw was a second-teamer each of the last two seasons.
Marymount, which made its first CAC semifinal appearance since 2009-10, was represented on the all-star squad by junior forward Dimitri Rucker on the second team. It was the first all-conference honor for Rucker.
Wesley junior guard JW Lawson and Frostburg State junior guard Tyler Michael were named to the second team, each collecting the first All-CAC accolades of their careers. St. Mary's junior guard Delaszo Smith was a repeast second team selection.
