The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team dropped a 67-63 decision to Salisbury on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles fall to 10-9 overall and 6-6 in Capital Athletic Conference play. John Lutkenhaus led the Eagles with 13 points and 11 boards.

Both teams began the game exchanging baskets, which included three lead changed in the first five minutes of play. Brent Mahoney drilled a three at the 14:18 mark to put the eagles up 13-9. The Eagles held the lead until Salisbury hit a lay up to go up 17-16 with 8:15 to go in the first half.

A.J. Robinson responded with a three-pointer to take back the lead for the Eagles at 19-17. Salisbury knocked down two free throws to tie the game, but Jamal Newton hit a three-pointer to put the Eagles up 22-19 with 6:14 to go in the half.

With the Eagles up 26-24 with just over two minutes remaining, Salisbury poured in 10 straight to end the half, taking a 34-26 lead into the break.

In the second, Salisbury pushed the lead to 12, up 40-28, with 17:06 on the clock. The Eagles answer by scoring 10 straight to cut the deficit to two with about 15 minutes left in the game. The run was fueled by five points from Johnny Cronin, three from Lutkenhaus, and two from Eric Shaw.

Salisbury responded to the Eagles' run, scoring nine straight, up 49-38, by the 10:49 mark. The Eagles continued to chip away at the lead, cutting the deficit to two again with 6:32 left on a Cronin lay up. Salisbury hit a lay up to bring the lead back to four, but Austin Hall hit a three-pointer on the next possession to bring the Eagles within one at 54-53.

After the teams traded baskets, John Lutkenhaus knocked down two free throws with 3:35 left to tie the game at 58-58. Salisbury scored on the next possession and pushed the lead back to six with 33 seconds left in the game. Robinson hit a three-pointer with 11 seconds left to make it a one possession game, but Salisbury hit a free throw with six seconds left to cap the scoring at 67-63.

Mary Washington shot 41.1% from the field (23-56), making 9-27 three-pointers and 8-14 free throws. Salisbury shot 42.2% from the field, making 2-12 three-pointers and 11-17 free throws.

The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday as they host Christopher Newport at 8:00 pm in the Ron Rosner Arena.
