Junior forward Eric Shaw's 29 points and nine rebounds led the University of Mary Washington men's basketball team to a 67-62 victory over Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 7-6 on the season and 3-3 in CAC action.

In the early going, Harrisburg jumped to a quick 7-5 lead in the first 2:26. The Eagles quickly found their stride offensively, and went on an 18-10 run to lead 23-17 mid-way through the first half. The run was fueled by five points from John Lutkenhaus, four from Shaw, three from Alexander Brayboy, and two from Brent Mahoney, Jamal Newton, and Johnny Cronin.

The Eagles held the lead for the remainder of the first half as the teams exchanged baskets until Harrisburg tied the game at 34-34 with 31 seconds left. Shaw drained two free throws in the waning seconds to give the Eagles a two point lead heading into the break.

In the second, neither team could separate themself in the first ten minutes, as the game saw four lead changes and no lead larger than six points. After Harrisburg sank a free throw with 9:41 left in the game to tie the score at 48-48, Shaw nailed a free throw just seconds later to put the Eagles up one.

Harrisburg responded with a jumper to take the lead back at 50-49 with nine minutes left in the contest. Shaw answered again for the Eagles with a pair of free throws go back up one.

Harrisburg would take back the lead just minutes later, but Shaw knocked down a huge jumper to put the Eagles up for good at 56-55. Cronin followed Shaw's jumper with a layup to cushion the Eagles' lead to three with 2:40 remaining. The Eagles went 9-10 from the line in the final two minutes to close out the win.

Shaw's 29 points were fueled by his excellent free throw shooting, going 17-19 from the charity stripe. Cronin was a perfect 5-5 from the field en route to 12 points off the bench.

Mary Washington shot 40% from the field (18-45), making 2-12 three-pointers and 29-42 free throws. Penn State-Harrisburg shot 31.3% from the field (20-64), making 5-27 three-pointers and 17-26 free throws.

The Eagles return to action on Wednesday when they visit Southern Virginia in another CAC contest at 8:00 pm.
