Senior forward Dylan Farinet scored 22 points and added eight rebounds and junior Taylor Johnson scored 19 points in leading the University of Mary Washington men's basketball team to a 77-69 victory over Shenandoah University on Saturday in the ACAC South Region Shootout in Farmville, Va. The Eagles improve to 3-1 on the year.

Coming off a difficult buzzer-beater loss at #14 Hampden-Sydney on Friday night, the Eagles jumped ahead early, scoring the first seven points of the game. The Eagles expanded the lead to 16 on a Taylor Johnson layup with 6:38 left in the half.

The Hornets chipped away at the lead, but UMW held an eight-point advantage at halftime, 37-29. In the second half, the Eagles lead moved back and forth, from seven to 18 on a Bradley Riester three pointer with 11:40 to go. Shenandoah closed in the final minutes, giving UMW the eight-point win.

"Semi successful weekend", said head coach Rod Wood. "We need to learn how to close out games. But the positive is the guys believe they should be 4-0, and that should help their confidence and for practice moving forward."

Farinet led the Eagles with 22 points on 8-12 shooting, including 3-3 on three pointers. Johnson scored 19 on 7-13 shooting, and added five rebounds and three assists. Riester added 17 points, most of which came in the second half.

The Eagles shot a blistering 52.7% from the floor in the game, going 8-19 on three pointers, and went 11-12 from the free throw line. Shenandoah shot 43.9% from the field, making just six of 25 three pointers. The Eagles led in rebounds, 34-26, and provided 15 assists.

Mary Washington will host North Carolina Wesleyan College on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
