Sophomore Sean Armstrong and junior Bradley Riester each scored 16 points, and junior Dom Morra scored five key points in overtime as the University of Mary Washington men's basketball team topped Washington & Lee University, 72-71, in overtime on Thursday in Lexington, Va. Freshman Lamonte Fields was named to the all-tournament team, and sophomore Taylor Johnson was named the tourney's MVP.

In the first half, UMW quickly assumed the lead with a pair of three pointers from Johnson and another from Riester, holding an 11-2 lead with 16:20 remaining. The Generals cut the lead to one at 13-12, but UMW led by as many as 12 the rest of the half and maintained the lead through halftime, 36-29.

In the second, the Generals chipped away enough to draw back to even at 47-47 with 9:10 remaining. A three pointer from Javon McDonald gave the Generals a three-point lead - their largest lead in the game - with 7:26 left. From there, six lead changes and a pair of ties left the Generals up three with 2:10 remaining. A pair of Dylan Farinet free throws cut the deficit to one at 1:32, and a free throw from Riester tied the score with 35 seconds left. With the Generals havng the last possession, Morra stole the ball with three seconds left, but UMW's last-second shot fell short, sending the game to overtime.

In the extra frame, the Generals scored first, but Armstrong hit a pair of free throws to tie the score at 62 with 3:45 left. After a W&L free throw, Armstrong made a layup to give UMW the lead, and after another Generals free throw, Morra hit a long three-pointer with the shot clock at two and followed with another floater in the lane to give UMW a four-point lead with 1:32 to go.

After a furious rally from the Generals cut the deficit to one, the Generals were forced to foul with two seconds left, and their 2/3 court heave at the buzzer missed, giving UMW the win.

Armstrong had 16 points and nine rebounds and Riester 16 points and five rebounds for the Eagles, while Johnson had 12 points and seven rebounds, Fields scored 10 points before fouling out, and Morra had nine points and six assists.

The Eagles will host Wesley College in a Capital Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
