Riester's 29 Leads UMW Men's Basketball Past Gallaudet, 65-59

Junior guard Bradley Riester scored 29 points in leading the University of Mary Washington men's basketball team to a 65-59 victory at Gallaudet University on Tuesday night in Washington, D.C. The Eagles improve to 3-4 on the season.

Trailing 11-5 with 12 minutes remaining, the Eagles went on a 19-0 run over the next six minutes to take a 24-11 lead with 6:24 remaining. The Bison scored the last six points of the half to cut the halftime deficit to seven, at 37-30.

The Bison went on a 13-5 run to start the second half in taking the lead at 43-42 with 14:55 to go. An 8-0 UMW run gave the Eagles a 50-43 lead with 12:06 to play, and the Eagles held a 57-53 lead with 8:22 to go.

From there, UMW used a 14-0 run to take an 18-point lead at 71-53 with four minutes remaining, and despite a furious comeback attempt, the Eagles held on for their third win of the season.

Riester went 10-21 from the floor, including 6-14 on three point attempts. Sophomore Taylor Johnson scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double for the Eagles.

Mary Washington will return to action on December 19 when they visit Eastern Mennonite University at 6:00 p.m.
