Riester's 25 Points Leads UMW Men's Basketball Past York (N.Y.), 87-71

Junior Bradley Riseter scored a team-high 25 points, including 5-11 on three-point attempts, to lead the University of Mary Washington men's basketball team to an 87-71 win over York College (N.Y.) on Saturday in Rocky Mount, N.C. The Eagles improve to 1-2 on the year.

The Eagles fell behind, 14-6, in the early going, but a Riester three pointer, followed by a traditional three point play by Gaither Mason, and another Riester jumper tied the score at 14 with 12:30 left in the half.

York led by as many as six before a Lamont Fields layin gave UMW a lead at 24-22 with 6:13 to play. After York extended its lead to 27-24 with five minutes remaining, the Eagles went on an 11-0 run over the next 2:07 to assume a 35-27 lead with 2:53 left. The Eagles went 7-7 from the free throw line in the spurt, and led 39-33 at intermission.

To start the second half, Riester hit a pair of three pointers and Taylor Johnson added another to spearhead a 13-5 run and give UMW a 52-38 lead. The Eagles upped the lead to 17 on a pair of Jack Hamilton free throws with 10:35 left, and never looked back in the 17-point win.

Riester had 25 points to lead the Eagles, while Fields had 14 points and 10 rebounds in his first collegiate double-double. Hamilton had 15 points and seven rebounds for UMW, while Johnson also contributed a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

UMW shot 47.5% from the floor, including 8-22 on three pointers and went an impressive 23-27 (85%) from the free throw line. UMW will face Maryland Bible College on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Rocky Mount.
