UMW Men's Basketball Falls at #19 St. Mary's 79-57, in CAC Semifinals

The 19th-ranked St. Mary's College men's basketball team shot 55% from the floor in topping the University of Mary Washington, 79-57, in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament semifinals on Thursday night in St. Mary's City. The Eagles close the season with a record of 16-10.

The Eagles were able to stay close through much of the first half, leading 16-13 with 14:13 through seven minutes. But the Seahawks went on an 18-4 run to take a ten-point lead at 32-2 with 5:09 left. The Seahawks upped the lead to 15 at 40-25 at intermission.

St. Mary's ran the lead up to 22 early and the Eagles were never able to get closer than 13 in the second half. The Eagles were led by E.J. Willis (Alexandria, Va., T.C. Williams) ' 15 points, followed by Mike Harvey (East Berlin, Pa., Bermudian Springs) and Ryan Henderson (Richmond, Va., Highland Springs), who each scored 11. Harvey and Tad Dickman led UMW with five rebounds each, as the Eagles were outrebounded, 36-25, and shot just 37%.

St. Mary's, who was led by Alex Franz and Christian MacCauley's 18 points each, will host the CAC Championship on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
