UMW Men's Basketball Tops Frostburg, 70-35

The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team limited visiting Frostburg State University to nine first half points in defeating the Bobcats, 70-35, on Saturday at Goolrick Gymnasium in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles, who limited the Bobcats to 21.8% shooting for the day, came within two points of tying the fewest allowed in a game in program history.

UMW raced ahead early, scoring the game's first sevn points and building the lead to 20 at 27-7 with 4:13 left in the half. The Eagles scored the last seven points of the frame to lead, 34-9, at intermission.

The second half saw UMW shoot 44% from the field, including making 4-6 three pointers, while the Bobcats shot 32% (8-25). Junior guard Mike Harvey (East Berlin, Pa., Bermudian Springs) led Mary Washington with 12 points, and also added five rebounds. Freshman guard Bradley Riester (Richmond, Va., Monacan) scored 11 with three steals and junior guard Ryan Farrar (Ashburn, Va., Centreville, Va.) added 11 off the bench for the Eagles, who snap a three-game losing skid to improve to 12-5 overall and 6-3 in CAC play.

Frostburg was led by Mhabhushah Koffa, who scored 14 points before fouling out. UMW led in rebounding 43-41, and the Eagles caused 23 FSU turnovers.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday night when they visit Marymount University at 8:00 p.m. in another CAC matchup.
