The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team trailed throughout the game and saw its comeback effort fall short in a 106-97 loss at Wesley College on Saturday evening. Junior forward Tad Dickman (Springfield, Va., Robert E. Lee) scored a career-high 32 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the loss for UMW, who falls to 11-4 overall and 5-2 in Capital Athletic Conference action.

The Eagles trailed, 50-42, at halftime, but, after falling behind by as many as 14, was able to cut the deficit to three in the closing minutes. Wesley made numerous free throws down the stretch to keep the Eagles at bay.

For the game, UMW shot 44.3% from the floor, including 11-27 three point baskets, but made just 16-28 free throws. Dickman shot 10-14 from the floor with 2-4 three pointers and made 10 free throws. Joining the junior in double figures were freshman E.J. Willis (Alexandria, Va., T.C. Williams) (17 points), Bradley Riester (Richmond, Va., Monacan) (16), and Walt Smith (Alexandria, Va., T.C. Williams) (13).

Wesley had five players in double figures and shot 47% from the floor, and finished 28-37 free throws. Each team had 25 turnovers, and Wesley held a slim 49-46 rebounding advantage.

The Eagles will look to get back on the winning track with another away CAC contest on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. against Hood College at Fort Detrick, Md.
