UMW Men's Basketball Falls to NC Wesleyan in South Region Shootout, 77-71


FARMVILLE, VA - The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team saw senior Brandon Altmann (Vienna, Va., James Madison) score 25 points and add 12 rebounds, but committed 22 turnovers and shot just 5-20 on three point attempts in a 77-71 loss to North Carolina Wesleyan College on Sunday at Hampden Sydney College. The loss drops the Eagles' record to 2-3 overall.

Mary Washington led, 35-31, at halftime, but made 14 second half turnovers, and went just 1-6 from long range in the second frame. The Eagles did hold a 48-29 rebounding advantage.

Altmann led the Eagles for the fifth straight game, and is now averaging 20.6 PPG. Also in double figures for UMW were Ryan Farrar (Ashburn, Va., Centreville, Va.) and Qaiser Ahmed (Falls Church, Va., George C. Marshall), who each scored 11 points. Freshman J.R. Gray (Staunton, Va., Robert E. Lee) added nine points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles.

Mary Washington will host Wesley College in the CAC and home opener on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m., and the Eagle athletic department will raffle \$10,000 at halftime.
