UMW Men's Basketball Falls to St. Mary's in Season Finale, 76-54

The University of Mary Washington men's basketball season come to a close with a 76-54 loss to \#17 St. Mary's College at Goolrick Gymnasium on Sunday evening. The Eagles close the year with a record of 9-15 overall.

The Eagles stayed close through much of the first half, but a 12-0 spurt for the Seahawks with four minutes left put UMW behind, 32-23, at intermission. UMW shot 41% in the first frame to 39% for the Seahawks, but 13 first half turnovers by UMW spelled trouble, as the Eagles connected for just 7-17 field goals in the first stanza.

The second half saw UMW close the gap to six points at 36-30 with 16:44 to play, but a 16-6 Seahawk run was too much for the Eagles. The Seahawks led by as many as 27 before claiming a 22-point win at the final buzzer.

On senior night for the Eagles, all five seniors started. Center Brandon Altmann (Vienna, Va., James Madison) scored 11 points and added eight rebounds, and forward Eric Rolander (Alexandria, Va., Gonzaga) added 11 points. UMW was led by Qaiser Ahmed (Falls Church, Va., George C. Marshall)'s 12 points.
