#27 UMW Men's Golf Extends Lead to 28 Strokes After Day Two of CAC Championship

The University of Mary Washington men's golf team extended its lead to 28 strokes following the second day of action at the 2018 Capital Athletic Conference Championship at Bay Creek Golf Resort in Cape Charles, Va., on Friday.

The Eagles shot a cumulative 302 on Friday, eight strokes better than their Thursday score of 310. The Eagles stand with 612 strokes (+36), while Christopher Newport University shot a +34 on Friday, and stand at 640 after two days. York College also shot a +34 on Friday, and stand third at 644. Marymount (684), Wesley (715), Penn St. Harrisburg (733), Southern Va. (741), and New Jersey City (755) round out the field entering the third and final round Saturday.

Individually, the Eagles are led by sophomore Jason Guintu, shot the low round of the tournament with an even par 72 on Friday. Guintu overcame an eight on his second hole, shooting seven pars to turn at plus four on the day, and made four birdies on the back nine without a bogey. He is at +5 through 36 holes and in first place, one stroke ahead of teammate Sebastien Bonte, who carded a (+5) 77 on Friday. Sophomore Phillip Manceri is tied for fifth at +11 through two days after shooting a 76 on Friday, and soph Austin Matz is eighth overall at +15. Sophomore Ethan Kelly is ninth overall at +16 through Friday's round.

The Championship will conclude on Saturday.
