#27 UMW Men's Golf Grabs Eight-Stroke Lead After Day One of CAC Championship

The 27th ranked University of Mary Washington men's golf team got off to a fast start at the 2018 Capital Athletic Conference Championship on Thursday at Bay Creek Golf Club in Cape Charles, Va. The Eagles completed day one of the three-day event with a cumulative 310, eight strokes ahead of second place Christopher Newport. York College is third with 322, followed by Marymount University at 344, Wesley College at 357, New Jersey City University at 370, and Penn State Harrisburg and Southern Virginia at 372.

Leading the way for the Eagles was freshman Sebastien Bonte, who finished day one in first place with a 72 (+1). Sophomore Jason Guintu is tied for third at 77 (+5), while sophomore Phillip Manceri is in seventh place with a 79 (+7). Sophomore Austin Matz shot an 81 (+9) to tie for ninth after one round, and sophomore Ethan Kelly posted an 83 (+11).

As a team, the Eagles shot a 310, 22 shots over par for the team. The championship will continue on Friday at Bay Creek.
