UMW Field Hockey Edges Centre, 2-1, on Saturday

The University of Mary Washington field hockey team overcame an early deficit to defeat Centre College, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon in Danville, Ky. The Eagles improve to 9-7 on the season.

After falling behind early on a Colonels score in the opening minute, UMW evened the score at 1-1 at 9:09, on a score from sophomore Grayson Scott

The game remained tied through the rest of the first, second, and third quarters, and UMW went ahead to stay at the final horn of the third on a score from junior Ellie Helbling.

UMW led in shots, 11-7, as well as penalty corners, 5-1. Eagle keeper Bailey McNabb made six saves on the day in gaining the victory. 

The Eagles will return to action on Sunday, as they take on DePauw University in Danville, Ky., at noon.
