
Sophomore Grayson Scott and junior Lauren Boucher each scored a pair of goals in lifting the University of Mary Washington field hockey team over Virginia Wesleyan University, 8-0, on Wednesday evening in Virginia Beach. The Eagles eclipse last season's win total, improving to 6-3 on the year.
Boucher put the Eagles on the scoreboard first, scoring unassisted at 4:12 into the contest. In the second quarter, Paige Stewart scored at 20:43, and was followed 3:50 later on an unassisted strike from Scott. Senior Emma Bernard capped the first half with an unassisted score at 27:38.
UMW continued to apply the pressure in the third quarter, as Jessica Wood scored on an Elizabeth Stribling assist at 39:52. Anna Reed extended the lead to 6-0 at 44:59 on a Caroline Porter assist. In the fourth, Boucher scored at 46:50, and Scott added the capper at 51:27.
In all, UMW outshot the Marlins, 22-1, and forced 12 corners, while allowing just one. Bailey McNabb gained the shutout win without recording a save in the game.
The Eagles will return to action on Saturday when they visit Stevenson University at 1:00 p.m.
