The University of Mary Washington field hockey team dropped a 1-0 decision to visiting 22nd ranked Shenandoah University on Friday evening under the lights at the Battleground. The Eagles slip to 5-3 on the season.
The Hornets capitalized on their first shot of the game, scoring at 7:02 into the first quarter on a redirect. That score would be the only one of the game, despite the Eagles' efforts, and a nifty save of a penalty stroke by UMW 'keeper Bailey McNabb.
UMW led in shots, 11-6, as well as in penalty corners, 7-3. McNabb made two saves on the night.
The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday evening when they visit Virginia Wesleyan University at 6:00 p.m.
