UMW Field Hockey Falls to CNU in C2C Action, 4-0, on Tuesday

The University of Mary Washington field hockey team dug an early hole and couldn't escape in a 4-0 defeat to Charistopher Newport University on Tuesday afternoon at the Battleground. The Eagles slip to 8-5 on the season.

Christopher Newport scored on its first opportunity of the game, at 4:47, and added another in the second quarter for a 2-0 halftime advantage. The Captains added a pair to open the third quarter. 

Mary Washington had several chances with flurries in front of the CNU goal, but weren't able to find the cage. Christopher Newport led in shots, 15-10, as well as penalty corners, 7-6. UMW goalkeeper Chloe Billy (Henrico, Va. / Godwin) made five saves and senior defender Sydney Keating (Fairfax, Va. / Fairfax) had a defensive save.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday when they host Salisbury University at 2:00 p.m. in another C2C contest.
