UMW Field Hockey Falls at FDU-Florham, 2-1, on Tuesday

The University of Mary Washington field hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision at Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham on Tuesday afternoon in New Jersey. The Eagles slip to 5-8 on the season.

The Eagles fell behind in the early going, as the Devils scored at 3:39 on a redirect from outside the arc. FDU-Florham added another score at 12:53 on a penalty stroke, and the score stood at 2-0 through scoreless second and third quarters.

With 11:57 remaining in the fourth, senior Lauren Hopkins continued her scoring frenzy, caging her 13th goal in UMW's last nine games, on an assist from classmate Lexie Dixson.

The Eagles carried a 24-12 advantage on shots, and an 11-9 edge in penalty corners. Sophomore goalie Jillian Lawrence posted six saves in goal for the Eagles.

UMW will return to action on Saturday, as the Eagles host York College of Pa. for Homecoming at 12:00 p.m.
