Urcia's Goal Lifts UMW Field Hockey Past Bridgewater, 1-0, on Wednesday Evening

Sophomore Bella Urcia scored the game's lone goal with 1:49 remaining before halftime in lifting the University of Mary Washington field hockey team to a 1-0 victory at Bridgewater College on Wednesday night. The Eagles improve to 2-1 on the season.

The first half saw the Eagles dominate in shots, but the game remained scoreless until Urcia found the cage on an assist from sophomore Izzy Scholz at 33:11. From there, the Eagles defense remained steadfast, and UMW came away with the one-score win.

In all, UMW led in shots, 20-3, and in penalty corners, 10-3. Senior goalkeeper Jessica Cavolt made three saves for UMW, while Emily Witzke had 12 saves for Bridgewater.

Mary Washington will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts Franklin & Marshall College at 1:00 p.m.
