Massey-Elim's Two Scores Lead #17 UMW Field Hockey Past Shenandoah, 3-0, on Saturday

Senior midfielder Allegra Massey-Elim scored a pair of goals to lead the 17th ranked University of Mary Washington field hockey team to a 3-0 victory at Shenandoah University on Wednesday in Winchester, Va. The Eagles improve to 7-4 on the season.

The Eagles were unable to find the cage in the first half, despite outshooting the Hornets, 7-0, and having six penalty corners. In the second half, the UMW offense came alive, as Massey-Elim opened the scoring at 46:43 with an unassisted tally. The senior wasn't finished, as she scored again just 35 seconds later, at 47:18, with an insurance tally. Senior Erin Kaila capped the scoring at 62:21 with another unassisted tally.

The Eagles led in shots, 23-3, as well as in corners, 15-2. UMW junior goalkeeper Jessica Cavolt made a pair of saves, while junior defender Mackenzie Burnett added a defensive save. Shenandoah's Isabella Morande had 10 saves, while the Hornets picked up five defensive saves in the game.

UMW will return to action on Wednesday when they host 15th ranked Christopher Newport University in the Capital Athletic Conference opener. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
