#14 UMW Field Hockey Falls in OT at Washington & Lee, 2-1, on Wednesday Night

The 14th ranked University of Mary Washington field hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision in overtime on Wednesday night in Lexington, Va. The Eagles, who see their five-game win streak snapped, fall to 5-2 on the season.

The Generals opened the scoring at 8:17 into the first half, as Lee Lauren Paolano scored unassisted. W&L held the lead throughout the rest of the first half, despite UMW holding a 12-7 advantage on shots.

Early in the second, UMW tied the score as freshman Bella Urcia scored on a Lexie Dixson assist just 1:36 into the second half. The Eagles would go on to outshoot the Generals, 9-4, in the second, but couldn't find the go-ahead score.

Washington & Lee found the game winner 8:07 into the first extra frame, as Haley Tucker scored her first goal of the season.

UMW led in shots, 22-15, and in penalty corners, 7-4. UMW goalkeeper Jessica Cavolt had nine saves for the Eagles, while Jackie Smith and Mackenzie Burnett each recorded defensive saves.

The Eagles will host fifth ranked Tufts University on Saturday at noon.
