LaRowe's Two Scores Lead UMW Field Hockey to 3-2 OT Win at CNU in CAC Semifinal

Junior Morgan LaRowe scored a pair of goals, including the game winner in overtime, to lift the University of Mary Washington field hockey team to a 3-2 victory at Christopher Newport University on Wednesday evening in Newport News, Va. The Eagles improve to 12-5 on the season, and will visit Salisbury University for the CAC Championship on Saturday.

While the Captains held an early advantage in shots, it was the Eagles who jumped on top first, as LaRowe scored on a breakaway with 4:48 left in the first half. UMW held the 1-0 lead at intermission.

In the second, the Eagles scored again with 18:58 remaining, junior Erin Kaila scored on a Lauren Hopkins penalty corner. The Captains stormed back however, cutting the deficit to 2-1 with 9:05 left on a Calli Ioannou score, and tying the game at 2-2 with 2:52 left on a penalty corner score from Abby Crytz.

After CNU had seized momentum with its comeback, the Eagles settled down in overtime, and actualy recorded more shots in the 11 minutes of extra play (six) than they had in either half of regulation. The game concluded as LaRowe scored on an Allegra Massey-Elim assist with 10:48 elapsed in overtime.

Christopher Newport led in shots, 22-14, as well as in penalty corners, 16-9. UMW sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Cavolt recorded 10 saves for the Eagles, while Bailey Lien had seven saves for the Captains.

UMW will visit Salisbury for the CAC Championship on Saturday. Game time has been set at 6:00 p.m. in Salisbury, Md.
