UMW Field Hockey Falls at Christopher Newport, 1-0, in Regular Season Finale

Christopher Newport's Abby Cryts scored on a Mackenzie Neylon assist with 15:32 remaining in regulation to lead the Captains past Mary Washington, 1-0, on Wednesday evening in Newport News in a key Capital Athletic Conference showdown. With the loss, the Eagles slip to 11-5 on the season, and 4-2 in CAC play.

In a defensive-oriented game, the Captains led in shots, 9-6, as well as in penalty corners, 7-6. UMW sophomore Jessica Cavolt had seven saves in goal, while CNU's Bailey Lien had four saves.

The Eagles will return to Christopher Newport next Wednesday in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament semifinals. UMW, CNU, and York all finished with 4-2 league marks, and all finished 1-1 against each other. The next tiebreaker is goal differential in all CAC games, placing CNU with the two seed, UMW with the third, and York with the fourth. Game time is tenatively set for 6:00 p.m.
