UMW Freshman Lauren Hopkins Named CAC Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- Mary Washington freshman Lauren Hopkins and York sophomore Eve Hauptle were selected as the CAC Field Hockey Players of the Week for Sept. 19, 2016.

Mary Washington freshman Lauren Hopkins was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after totaling four goals and one assist in a 2-0 week for the 16th-ranked Eagles. On Tuesday at Bridgewater (Va.), Hopkins scored a pair of goals and added an assist in a 7-2 win. On Saturday, she added two more goals in a 4-1 victory, including the eventual game-winner. For the season, Hopkins has six goals and two assists in seven games.

Defensive Player of the Week

York sophomore Eve Hauptle claimed CAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after totaling 10 saves and surrendering just one goal in 170 minutes of action last week. Hauptle began the week by shutting out fifth-ranked Franklin & Marshall, notching six saves en route to her first shutout of the year. She followed that up by allowing just one goal in 100 minutes of a penalty stroke loss to Juniata. For the week, Hauptle posted a .909 save percentage and 0.42 goals against average.

Salisbury is ranked No. 6 in the Penn Monto / National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll, with Christopher Newport (No. 14) and Mary Washington (t-No. 16) also in the top 20 ... Salisbury (5-1), CNU (5-1), York (5-1), UMW (4-2), and Frostburg State (3-2) have winning records so far in 2016 ... CNU's Rachael Allshouse posted her second multi-goal effort of the season on Wednesday with two strikes during a 4-0 victory over Randolph-Macon. She currently leads the Captains with five goals this year ... Frostburg State freshman Lindsay Gardiner posted a hat trick last week as the Bobcats went 2-0. She scored twice in a 5-0 blanking of Hood and scored once in a 4-0 shutout of Virginia Wesleyan ... Salisbury shutout Cabrini 6-0, holding the Cavaliers without a shot throughout the entire game. Arielle Johnston notched her first multi-goal game, including the evenutal game-winner in the sixth minute of play. Annah Brittingham and the SU defense was stout, limiting Cabrini to just four penalty corners ... York's Lindsay Nye continued her hot scoring start to the year, notching two of the Spartans three goals last week, including a key insurance goal in a 2-0 victory over fifth-ranked Franklin & Marshall. For the year, Nye has a team- and conference-leading 18 points on eight goals and two assists.
