UMW's Haley Kane Named CAC Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- Mary Washington senior Haley Kane and Christopher Newport freshman Brittan Muir were honored as the CAC Field Hockey Players of the Week for Oct. 12, 2015.

Mary Washington senior Haley Kane was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after totaling two goals and four assists in the a 2-0 week for the 15th-ranked Eagles. Kane tied the UMW school record with four assists while also adding a goal in a win over Eastern Mennonite, and later in the week added a goal in the Eagles' CAC victory over Wesley. 

Defensive Player of the Week

Christopher Newport freshman Brittan Muir was named the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after playing all 150 minutes of CNU's two conference victories over St. Mary's and York last week. Muir anchored the defensive penalty corner unit, which faced 13 attempts during the week and surrendered only two on-target shots and no goals on penalty corners. She also posted a pair of defensive saves against York on Saturday, becoming the first freshman in program history to notch at least two in a single game. Muir had an impact on the other end of the field as well, assisting on both game-winning goals and contributing a goal.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE 

CAC play continues this week with five matchups across the conference ... Salisbury is ranked No. 4 in the Penn Monto / National Field Hockey Coaches Association Oct. 3 National Rankings, while Christopher Newport is No. 14 and Mary Washington is No. 15 ... St. Mary's went 1-1 last week with a 3-2 overtime loss to CNU and a 1-0 win over Frostburg State ... Salisbury fell to Catholic 2-0 in its only action of the week ... Wesley's Renee Schneider recorded all three of the Wolverines' goals in a 1-2 week. Two of her scores came in a 2-1 non-conference victory against Virginia Wesleyan. She now has four goals and an assist on the year. Wesley goalkeeper Kayla Fromal averaged 15 saves per game last week, including a career-high 24 stops in a loss to Mary Washington. The 24 save-performance was the most saves in a single game by a CAC keeper this season. She ranks first in the conference in save percentage (.809) ... York sophomore Ali Posey scored all three of the Spartans' goals in York's two games for the week. She tallied both of the Spartans' two goals in the second half of the 3-2 overtime loss to Stevenson, and scored the game's opening goal of Saturday's 2-1 loss to CNU. Posey has 34 points this year on 15 goals and four assists. Jennifer Morrissette picked up two more defensive saves last week as she leads the Spartans with eight for the season.
