Namey, Varjabedian Goals Lead #15 UMW Field Hockey Past St. Mary's, 2-0, on Saturday

Senior Kathleen Namey and sophomore Noor Varjabedian each scored goals to lead the 15th ranked University of Mary Washington field hockey team to a 2-0 victory at St. Mary's College on Saturday in Capital Athletic Conference action in St. Mary's City, Md. The Eagles improve to 11-3 overall, and 3-0 in league play.

Namey put the Eagles on the scoreboard at 27:31 on a Haley Kane assist on a penalty corner. The Eagles carried the 1-0 lead to halftime.

In the second half, UMW found an insurance tally from Varjabedian at 43:48, on a Jenna Steele assist, and held on the rest of the way for the shutout.

The Eagles led in shots, 9-5, and penalty corners, 6-2.UMW freshman Jessica Cavolt had two saves and senior Carlee Budd had a defensive save. St. Mary's goalie Alyssa Thompson had three saves for the Seahawks.

Mary Washington will return to action on Wednesday when they host #13 Christopher Newport University in another CAC showdown starting at 4:00 p.m.
