Namey's Two Goals, Assist Lead #17 UMW Field Hockey Past Randolph-Macon, 10-0; Loehr Adds Two Scores

All-region senior midfielder Kathleen Namey scored a pair of goals and added an assist, and all-conference junior Christine Loehr added two goals to propel the 17th ranked University of Mary Washington field hockey team to a 10-0 victory over Randolph-Macon College on Tuesday in the season lidlifter at the Battleground. All-America midfielder Haley Kane added a goal and two assists for the Eagles.

Loehr opened the scoring wwith 3:03 elapsed unassisted, and Namey followed with 5:22 gone with an unassisted goal. The Eagles pushed the lead to 3-0 when Kane scored on a Namey assist on a penalty corner, and all-region senior Jenna Steele scored on a Trisha Le pass with 21:01 elapsed.

Sophomore Noor Varjabedian scored on a Kane pass 1:35 later, and the Eagles closed the half with a penalty corner goal by all-conference senior Carlee Budd on a Kane assist with no time on the clock.

Loehr opened the second half with her second tally, scoring unassisted 1:31 into play. Namey scored with 19:45 remaining, and sophomore Morgan LaRowe scored with 13:38 left on a Nicole Guinn assist to run the lead to 9-0. Freshman Alaina Shivers scored on a Guinn assist with 2:57 left for the capping score.

"Great team effort today", said UMW head coach Lindsey Elliott. "Hopefully this will be indicative of how we play all season. The freshmen came in and did well in their first collegiate game, which was great to see."

The Eagles led in shots, 42-1, and had 11 penalty corners to none for RMC. Freshmen Caroline Freeman and Jessica Cavolt each played 35 minutes of scoreless action in goal, while Randolph-Macon's Kelsey Stanley had 25 saves.

The Eagles will return to action on Saturday when they host DePauw University at 10:00 a.m.
