#8 UMW Field Hockey Falls to #7 Salisbury, 4-0

The eighth-ranked University of Mary Washington field hockey team dropped a 4-0 decision to seventh-ranked Salisbury on Saturday at the Battleground, ending the Eagles' undefeated start at 13 games. UMW falls to 13-1 overall, and 2-1 in Capital Athletic Conference action.

The game stood scoreless at halftime, despite the Sea Gulls holding an 8-3 edge in penalty corners through the first half, and also led in shots, 8-5.

The Sea Gulls began the second half by scoring goals on their first three shots, and never looked back. Yumi Kim scored with 31:57 remaining, Courtney Jantzen followed four minutes later, and Summer Washburn scored on a penalty corner with 19 minutes remaining. Kim followed with another score in the final minute.

The Sea Gulls led in shots, 13-8, and in corners, 11-8. Junior Emily Badis made five saves for the Eagles.

Mary Washington will return to action on Wednesday evening when they visit Wesley College at 7:00 p.m.
