Five Different Players Score as #8 UMW Field Hockey Blanks St. Mary's, 5-0

The eighth-ranked University of Mary Washington field hockey team used goals from five different players in defeating St. Mary's College, 5-0, on Wednesday in St. Mary's City, Md. The Eagles improve to 13-0 on the season, and 2-0 in CAC play.

Sophomore Kathleen Namey started the scoring for the Eagles with 12 minutes elapsed in the game on an assist from freshman Christine Loehr. Then, just before halftime, junior Christine Downie scored to give UMW a 2-0 halftime advantage.

In the second half, freshman Ashlin Jones scored on a Caitlin Baker assist less than five minutes into the half. Sophomore Jenna Steele scored unassisted five minutes later, and sophomore Haley Kane capped the scoring unassisted with 10 minutes remaining.

The Eagles led in shots, 23-20, and in penalty corners, 15-14. Junior goalie Emily Badis had 11 saves and carlee Budd added a defensive save for UMW, while Christy Bishop had nine stops for the Seahawks.

The eagles will host Salisbury University on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in another key CAC matchup.
