#7 UMW Field Hockey Blanks Frostburg, 10-0, in CAC Action

Senior Lisa Charney scored four goals to tie a Capital Athletic Conference Record to lead the seventh-ranked University of Mary Washington field hockey team to a 10-0 victory at Frostburg State University on Saturday in Western Md. The Eagles improve to 10-0 on the season, its best start in school history.

The Eagles opened the scoring in the first minute, as Amy Abernathy scored just 41 seconds into play. Charney then began her assualt on the Bobcat goal, scoring with 28:38 remaining and again 10 minutes later to up the lead to 3-0. Charney then reached her hat trick midway through the first half on a Caitlin Baker assist. Two minutes later, freshman Jenna Steele scored on a Courtney Rampey assist, and Baker capped the first half scoring with nine minutes left unassisted.

The Eagles used goals from Abernathy and Charney in less than a one-minute span to open the second half scoring, and freshmen Mikaela Barton and Nicole Guinn added later goals as UMW finished with the 10-goal margin.

UMW led in shots, 48-10, and in penalty corners, 15-5. Junior goalie Claire Gianelle made five saves in goal for UMW in gaining the shutout.

The Eagles will return to action on Tuesday when they host Eastern Mennonite University at 4:00 p.m.
