Washington College jumped out to a 3-1 halftime lead and held on for a 5-3 victory over 18th ranked University of Mary Washington on Tuesday night in Chestertown, Md. The Eagles fall to 11-4 on the season.
The Shorewomen wasted little time, netting goals at 6:08 and 7:32 into the game. The Eagles cut the deficit in half as junior Lisa Charney scored unassisted13:28 into the game, but Washington College scored the next two goals, both by Claire McAuliffe, to push the lead to 4-1.
Sophomore Caitlin Baker then netted a pair of goals to cut the deficit to one at 4-3, but the Shorewomen put the game away with an insurance goal with less than 10 minutes left.
The Eagles led in shots, 24-16, and in penalty corners, 11-6. Junior goalkeeper Claire Gianelle had nine saves for Mary Washington, who will visit Frostburg State University on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
