UMW's Jones, Reynolds Named CAC Athletes of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- The Capital Athletic Conference announced its Oct. 31, 2011, weekly award winners:

FIELD HOCKEY
Mary Washington senior forward MORGAN JONES (Williamsburg, Va./Walsingham Academy) was selected as the CAC Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week while York sophomore goalie ALANNA CURTIS (Easthampton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) was named  the CAC Defensive Player of the Week.
Jones scored the hat trick and broke the Mary Washington record for goals in a season in Sunday's 6-0 CAC playoff victory over sixth-seeded Stevenson.  The UMW standout is now second on the Eagles' career goals (49) and points (122) lists.
Curtis registered a pair of shutouts against CAC rivals this week.  She had two saves in a midweek win at Hood that clinched the No. 4 seed and a home game in the opening round of the playoffs, then rejected four shots against St. Mary's in Sunday's first-round playoff action.  Curtis now has five shutouts this season.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
Mary Washington sophomore forward ERIN REYNOLDS (Oakton, Va./Oakton) was named the CAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week while St. Mary's sophomore goalie KELSEY WIRTZ (Parkton, Md./Hereford) was selected as the CAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
Reynolds propelled fifth-seeded Mary Washington into the semifinal round of the 2011 CAC playoffs by recovering the rebound of her shot and punching it into the back of the net in the 98th minute of Sunday's 2-1 win at York.  Her eighth goal of the season raised her season total to 21 points, which shares the team lead.
Wirtz registered five saves in a midweek draw at Marymount that pinned down SMC's sixth seed in the CAC playoffs.  She then denied third-seeded Frostburg State nine times during Sunday's scoreless draw, including several in the shootout that advanced the Seahawks to the CAC semifinals.
