Haynor's Stroke Lifts UMW Field Hockey in CAC Semifinals

Senior Kristen Haynor (Oakton, Va., James Madison) scored the game's lone goal six minutes into play as the University of Mary Washington field hockey team defeated St. Mary's College, 1-0, in a defensive battle in Capital Athletic Conference semifinal action on Wednesday in St. Mary's City. The Eagles improve to 13-7 on the year, and will advance to Saturday's CAC Championship game.

Haynor caged UMW's score 6:14 into the game for her fifth goal of the year. From there, both defenses tightened, as UMW held a slim 6-5 edge in shots in the entire game. The Eagles also had six penalty corners to four for the Seahawks. Senior Chrissy Bowdren (Fairfax Station, Va., Robinson) had three saves for the Eagles, while Lydia Garcia had one save.

The Eagles will host Wesley College for the CAC title on Sataurday, as Wesley upset nationally-ranked Salisbury, 1-0, on Wednesday. Game time at the Battleground is set for 1:00 p.m.
