UMW Field Hockey Falls at #7 CNU, 3-1

The University of Mary Washington field hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision at \#7 Christopher Newport University on Saturday in Newport News. UMW slips to 6-6 on the season.

The Captains jumped ahead with two goals before halftime, on a penalty stroke and field goal in the first 35 minutes. CNU upped the lead to 3-0 midway through the second half. UMW's Morgan Jones (Williamsburg, Va., Walsingham Academy) scored with five minutes left in the game to break up the shutout.

CNU outshot Mary Washington, 19-10, and had 20 penalty corners to four for the Eagles. UMW senior Chrossy Bowdren had 13 saves, while CNU's Brittany Bradshear had five.

The Eagles will visit Virginia Wesleyan College on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
