UMW Field Hockey Tops Sweet Briar

The University of Mary Washington field hockey team scored five goals in each half in a 10-0 victory over Sweet Briar College on Wednesday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 10-5 on the season.

Junior Erin Haynes (King George, Va., James Monroe) scored three goals for the Eagles, while freshman MacKenzie Sloan (Earlysville, Va., Albemarle) added two goals and two assists. Sophomore Morgan Jones (Williamsburg, Va., Walsingham Academy) scored twice for the Eagles, while Erin Duffy (Fairfax, Va., Robinson), Emma Jones (Yorktown, Va., York), and Kaitlyn Ripley (Stafford, Va., Stafford) each scored once for UMW.

Mary Washington outshot the Vixen, 34-0, and had 15 penalty corners to one for Sweet Briar. UMW goalies Chrissy Bowdren, Claire Gianelle, and Katie Gerbes combined for the shutout.

The Eagles will visit Roanoke College on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
