UMW Field Hockey Falls at Catholic on OT Penalty Stroke

The University of Mary Washington field hockey team dropped a tough 2-1 decision at Catholic University on Wednesday afternoon in Washington, D.C. The Eagles fall to 5-3 on the season.

After a scoreless first half, the Eagles jumped ahead on a penalty corner score from Jackie Tait (Fredericksburg, Va., Stafford), which was assisted by Morgan Jones (Williamsburg, Va., Walsingham Academy). Catholic tied the score with less than seven minutes remaining, and tallied the game winner on a penalty stroke by Kathryn Morris with 5:03 left in the extra frame.

The Cardinals outshot the Eagles, 12-8, and had nine corners to 13 for UMW. Eagle goalie Chrissy Bowdren (Fairfax Station, Va., Robinson) had four saves for the Eagles, including a penalty stroke in the second half.

Mary Washington will visit Stevenson University on Saturday at noon in Capital Athletic Conference play.
