Jones Paces UMW Field Hockey to Fifth Straight Win

Sophomore forward Morgan Jones (Williamsburg, Va., Walsingham Academy) scored one goal and assisted on another to lead the University of Mary Washington field hockey team to a 2-0 victory at Dickinson College on Saturday in Carlisle, Pa. The Eagles, winners of five straight, improve to 5-1 on the season.

Despite outshooting the Red Devils, 11-2, in the first half, UMW advanced to halftime in a scoreless tie. Junior Jackie Tait (Fredericksburg, Va., Stafford) scored first for the Eagles, with 29:16 left in the second half on a pass from Jones. With 9:29 remaining, Jones scored on a pass from Emma Jones (Yorktown, Va., York) for an insurance marker.

In all, UMW outshot Dickinson, 19-6, and had a 14-6 advantage in penalty corners. Eagle junior Chrissy Bowdren (Fairfax Station, Va., Robinson) had six saves, while Amanda West had nine stops for Dickinson.

Mary Washington will visit Capital Athletic Conference foe Wesley College in a key conference game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
