Jones Leads UMW Field Hockey Past #8 Lebanon Valley, 4-3
Junior forward Emma Jones scored a pair of goals and assisted on another to lead the University of Mary Washington field hockey team to a 4-3 victory over eighth-ranked Lebanon Valley College on Saturday at the Battleground. Junior Jackie Tait and freshman MacKenzie Sloan each scored for the Eagles, who claimed just their second win in 13 meetings all-time against the Flying Dutchmen.

Lebanon Valley opened the scoring less than three minutes into the game on an unassisted goal by Cait Eckenrode. The Eagles knotted the score at one on a penalty corner goal by Tait with 24 minutes remaining on a pass from Erin Duffy. UMW took a 2-1 lead on Jones' first score with less than four minutes left. The Dutchmen knotted the score at two just before halftime on a goal by Jocelyn Novak on an assist from Avery Carter.

UMW raced ahead to start the second half, with Sloan giving UMW a 3-2 lead with 26 minutes left on a feed from Jones across the top of the circle. Jones capped the scoring less than three minutes later on a penalty corner, with assists going to Duffy and Tait.

Lebanon Valley outshot the Eagles, 18-14, and had 16 penalty corners to four for the Eagles. UMW goalkeeper Chrissy Bowdren had 11 saves in picking up the win, while Lebanon Valley's Caitlin Baro made five saves.

The Eagles will be back in action on September 10 when they host Bridgewater College at 4:30 p.m. Live stats and live video will be available for the game at www.umweagles.com
